Hattie Barnard was born in London in 1959. Her interest in art at an early age resulted in her wanting to learn about the subject. So, in the early 1980s she studied art at her local College in East London. After spending five of her childhood years in Nature Island (Dominica) in the 1960s, she felt especially drawn to nature and this inspired her interest in the landscape.
Hattie and her husband, Leo, work together on their farm in Saint Lucia making craft items for the souvenir section of the gallery. As well as painting, she designs the Hattie’s Cards range of greetings cards and writes. Her first book about family heritage/culture entitled: The Village by the Sea was published in 2013, and her second book—Saint Lucia: an inspiration for art was published in December 2018.
